We had a similar issue. We used to buy all of our winter coats at Bean.

Grandma lives out of state. She bought our son a parka from Bean that was just too small (he is six and tall for his age). We tried to return or exchange for a larger size at the Portland store near our house. We were treated like garbage.

Did not expect this. The coat had all of the tags and original ugly green shipping bag. We tried to return it just a few days after it was received. Seriously?

Why treat people that way?

What a waste. We did find a good charity to donate it to, but because we were treated so poorly we will never shop there again.

Several years ago I received about 5 T shirts from my daughter, and I had purchased several short sleeved T shirts myself. Still unworn, and several in their original cello bags with LL Bean sku numbers on them, I attempted to exchange the size on all and to long sleeves from the shorts sleeve ones. I was refused because I did not have my original receipts. I tried to do so a second time, but this time the receptionist was insulting, treating me as if I was trying to cheat them. I even offered a restock fee, but she kept on going. I was always an avid LL Bean fan. No more. I keep these shirts to remind me never to buy anything from these people again. Predatory attitude!

I bought a white mock turtleneck cotten shirt and when I got ready to pack it for a trip, well, there were 8" of hem left undone so I had to sew it myself. This is sad inattention to detail so I will go to Lands End next time.

My husband bought a pair of $79 suede slippers for me for Christmas. After eight months my right toe was poking through the end. I returned them for an exchange, but was denied because it was considered normal wear and tear. None of my other shoes or slippers have ever done this and I feel ripped off.

Had the same issue with slippers from Bean. Was told when tried to return that they guarantee all products for one year from purchase against defects except when worn.

Come again??

I think a class action lawsuit is in order. This company is fraudulent!

I am a customer and a former worker too. The quality of their stuff has really gone downhill it's *** Blankets and sheet fall apart. Coat is piece of *** with feathers come out. We do not shop there anymore. And I can tell you thatthe Flagship store is an awful place to work. Supervisors are mean and all stressed out and stress out the workers. It is not a nice place and there are no more nice people working there.

I agree with your post. I just had Bean turn down a return of a defective item purchased in the past six months.

They directed me to their returns policy, which stated that items can be returned for up to a year.

This makes me sad; I liked this company and wish they would have stuck by their standards. Guess they are losing another customer....

LL Bean Mastercard is a fraud

What a racket! LL Bean's Mastercard is supposedly a way to cut costs when it comes to making returns at no charge. But, LL Bean no longer honors their own returns policy, so it makes no difference. Plus, the bogus "deals" that come with the card are usually less of a discount than they give during holiday sales. What a lot of BS! They lie almost as much as the White House!

Details
Purchased a couple of sweaters and a pair of Bean Boots last winter. Quality was meh but I liked the comfortable fit. I am Mid-60’s, active, and my partner and I ski so we like the Bean for this sort of thing. Fast forward to spring. Yarn in the sweaters is unraveling. Sole of the boot has come unstitched from the upper. Sent back as a return. And - return was rejected. The Returns Dept was very unpleasant. They made up all sorts of stuff to negate my request for a return. My partner says the Bean has the ugliest clothes on Earth. I used to like their stuff but they have lost me as a customer for good. Someone needs to teach them some customer service skills.
